Things to do in Fall around Pasadena Maryland

Fall in Pasadena, MD: Local Things to Do, Places to Go, and Why We Love This Time of Year

October 01, 2026•4 min read

Fall is a great time to get out around Pasadena, Maryland. The humidity finally lets up, the leaves start changing, and suddenly a long walk outside sounds a whole lot better than it did in August.

You don't need to make a big day trip out of it, either. Between the parks, Chesapeake Bay views, local events, and a few good places to eat afterward, there are plenty of ways to enjoy fall without leaving Pasadena.

Here are a few worth checking out this season.

Take a Fall Walk at Downs Park

Downs Park is one of those places you can take for granted when you live nearby. Sitting right on the Chesapeake Bay, the 236-acre park has more than five miles of paved and natural trails, along with a fishing pier, playground, and plenty of open space.

Fall is especially nice here because you can actually enjoy a longer walk without dealing with the summer heat. Grab a coffee, walk the trails, let the kids hit the playground or find a spot near the water and stay awhile.

Downs Park is located at 8311 John Downs Loop and is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. until dusk. The current daily vehicle entry fee is $8.

Bring the Kids to the Downs Park Halloween Event

If you're looking for something festive, Downs Park is hosting its Halloween Scavenger Hunt & Costume Contest on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Kids can follow a scavenger hunt along the trails before heading to the amphitheater for a costume contest. The event is designed for children 12 and younger, and registration is required.

It's an easy way to do something Halloween-related without turning it into an all-day production. Just remember that the regular park entrance fee applies and the event is scheduled to happen rain or shine.

Explore Fort Smallwood Park

Fort Smallwood Park feels completely different once summer winds down.

The roughly 100-acre park sits where Rock Creek and the Patapsco River meet the Chesapeake Bay. Along with the water views, you'll find walking trails, a fishing pier, a playground, and pieces of local history, including the park's old gun battery and barracks.

Fall also brings a few organized activities. Family nature walks are scheduled in early October, and there's a bird-watching walk on October 2, 2026. More than 275 bird species have been observed living in or migrating through the park, so fall migration makes this a particularly interesting time to go.

If bird watching isn't normally your thing, don't let that stop you. You can just walk, fish, or enjoy some time outside when the weather is finally cooperating.

Get Into the Woods at Magothy Greenway

For something quieter, try the Magothy Greenway Natural Area near Lake Shore.

The greenway protects 369 acres of woodland and wetlands and includes about four miles of trails. You can access it around Loopers Field on North Shore Road.

This isn't the place you go for a huge attraction. It's where you go when you want comfortable shoes, cool weather, and a peaceful walk through the woods.

Seasonal closures for deer management are planned for fall 2026, so check the county schedule before heading over.

Finish the Day Somewhere Local

After a few hours outside, staying in Pasadena for dinner makes the day easy.

Two Rivers Steak & Fish House has been part of the community since 2011. It's locally owned, with steaks cut in-house, seafood, soups, house-made sauces, and its own bakery. It's comfortable, family-friendly and especially appealing once cooler weather makes a steak dinner sound pretty good.

If you're craving Italian instead, Primo Pasta Kitchen on Fort Smallwood Road is another local option. Pasta, pizza, and seafood make it an easy stop, especially if you've spent the afternoon at Fort Smallwood Park.

Sometimes the Best Fall Plans Are the Simple Ones

You don't need tickets, a complicated itinerary or a long drive to make a good fall Saturday around Pasadena.

Take a walk at Downs Park. Bring the kids to a seasonal event. Spend an afternoon at Fort Smallwood or disappear into the trails around the Magothy Greenway for a while. Then grab dinner somewhere local before heading home.

It's simple, but that's part of what makes community living enjoyable. You start having favorite places, familiar routines and spots you find yourself returning to every season.
