Fall at Kinder Farm Park: Things to Do in Millersville, MD

October 01, 2026•4 min read

If you're looking for something to do around Millersville this fall, Kinder Farm Park makes it pretty easy to fill an afternoon.

This isn't just a park with a playground and a few walking trails. Kinder Farm Park has 288 acres, a working farm, animals, a historic farmhouse, an antique sawmill, and miles of trails. In October, several fall events also give you a good reason to visit, even if you've been plenty of times before.

Take a Walk Around the Farm

One of the nicest things about Kinder Farm Park is that you don't really need an event on the calendar to enjoy it.

The park has a 2.4-mile paved perimeter trail, plus several miles of natural trails, so you can decide how ambitious you feel once you get there. There are also picnic areas, a large playground and a tot lot if you're bringing younger kids.

Of course, the farm animals tend to steal the show. Depending on your visit, you may see cows, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, and geese cared for through the park's livestock programs. Visitors shouldn't pet or feed them, but they're still a fun part of walking around the property.

Paint a Pumpkin on October 11

For a classic fall activity, Kinder Farm Park is holding Pumpkins and Crafts on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The event takes place at the Black Oak Pavilion, where families can paint a pumpkin and make fall crafts. Registration is available through the park.

It's a nice option if you want to do something seasonal with the kids without spending the entire day driving to a big fall attraction.

Build a Scarecrow and Explore the Farm

The following weekend brings another fall event.

On Saturday, October 17, from noon to 3:00 p.m., Kinder Farm Park is hosting a scarecrow-making event at the Black Oak Pavilion. Visitors can build their own scarecrow and then tour the Historic Farmhouse Museum and sawmill.

The farmhouse is worth seeing. It has been restored to resemble the Kinder family's home as it would have appeared around the time it was built in 1925, giving you a glimpse of Millersville's agricultural past.

Watch the Blacksmiths at Work

Here's something you don't get to see at every local park.

Members of the Chesapeake Forge Blacksmith Guild work at the park's blacksmith shop on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Visitors are welcome to stop in, watch the smiths forge metal and ask questions about what they're doing.

October 2026 workdays are scheduled for October 4, 11, 18, and 25.

It's especially fun if you're already walking around the farm and happen to hear the work going on inside. Instead of another staged attraction, you're watching people practice a craft that's been around for generations.

See the Antique Sawmill in Action

Kinder Farm Park also has a working antique sawmill operated by its Sawmill and Woodshop Club.

The group uses wood from local fallen trees, and lumber produced at the sawmill has even been used to make cabinets, counters and tables for the park's Visitor Center.

Sawmill workshops are scheduled on Wednesday mornings throughout October, including October 7, 14, 21 and 28, weather permitting.

Between the farmhouse, sawmill, blacksmith shop, and working farm, you get a little bit of local history without feeling like you're walking through a museum all afternoon.

Bring the Bikes on October 4

Families with younger bike riders have another option early in the month.

On Sunday, October 4, 2026, Kinder Farm Park is hosting a free Children's Bike Rodeo and Family Fun Safari Ride from 10:00 a.m. until noon.

The bike rodeo is designed for children ages 4 to 10 and includes a safety orientation, helmet and bike checks, and a supervised course where kids can practice riding safely. There's also a 2.6-mile family bike ride through the park.

It's a good way to get some fall outdoor time while giving younger riders a chance to practice without dealing with regular road traffic.

Why Kinder Farm Park Is Worth Knowing

Kinder Farm Park is one of those places that tells you something about Millersville that you wouldn't learn by simply driving through town.

You can walk a paved trail in the morning, see farm animals with the kids, watch a blacksmith working in the afternoon, and come back another weekend for pumpkins or scarecrow making. It's useful year-round, but fall fits this place particularly well.

The park is located at 1001 Kinder Farm Park Road in Millersville and is open seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. until dusk. The current daily vehicle fee is $8.
