A Day in Millersville: Quiet, Central, and Full of Green Space

Millersville sits right where a lot of families want to be. About ten miles north of Annapolis, twelve miles south of BWI, and close enough to both Baltimore and D.C. for an easy commute either way. It's a peaceful, family-friendly suburb, and a day here shows exactly why people who move here tend to stay.

Morning: Kinder Farm Park

Start the day at Kinder Farm Park, 288 acres of former working farm now run by Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks. Paved trails, real farm animals, playgrounds, and seasonal events like the fall pumpkin patch make this one of the best family parks in the whole county. It's the kind of place you plan for an hour and end up staying for three.

Late Morning: More Parks Worth Knowing

Millersville has more green space than its size would suggest. Southgate Old Mill Park, Barlowe Field & Park, Elvaton Park, and Shipleys Choice Park round out the options, covering everything from sports fields to quiet picnic spots. Between all of them, there's a park for whatever kind of morning you're after.

Midday: Lunch, Local Style

For lunch, Libations Tavern & Grille on Veterans Highway is a longtime local favorite, a scratch-kitchen American tavern known for its crab dip and a menu built on locally sourced ingredients. Gina's Cantina covers the Mexican food craving just as well. If pizza's more your speed, Ledo Pizza is a reliable neighborhood staple that Millersville families have been ordering from for years.

Afternoon: Greenway Bowl

For something a little different, Greenway Bowl is the local bowling alley and a genuine community gathering spot, good for a casual afternoon with the kids or a low-key hangout with friends.

Evening: Dinner Worth the Drive

For dinner, The Blackwall Barn & Lodge brings upscale, farm-to-table dining and an elegant atmosphere close to home. Elephant in the Room, a newer Southern-inspired spot on Veterans Highway, has quickly become a favorite too, with elevated comfort food, craft cocktails, and a warm, refined dining room worth dressing up for. If you'd rather keep it casual, Lures Bar & Grill nearby serves up local seafood and craft beer in a laid-back setting.

A Growing School Community

Millersville has long been home to Old Mill High School, and in the fall of 2024, the district split off a brand new school, Severn Run High School, right on the edge of Millersville and neighboring Severn, to ease overcrowding. Between the two, this area has some of the newest, most invested-in school infrastructure in the whole county.

Why It Works

A day in Millersville moves at an easy pace. A working farm turned park in the morning, real neighborhood restaurants for every meal, and a location that puts Baltimore, Annapolis, and BWI all within easy reach. It's a quiet town built for families who want space without giving up convenience.
