Living in Crofton Maryland

A Day in Crofton: Maryland's Best-Kept Suburban Secret

July 30, 2026•2 min read

Crofton keeps winning "best places to live" lists for a reason. It's not flashy, and it doesn't need to be. Good schools, real community events, and enough shopping and entertainment nearby that you rarely need to leave. A day here shows exactly why families stay for decades.

Morning: The Crofton Farmers Market
Start your Saturday at the Crofton Farmers Market, held right at the Crofton Library from 8am to noon. This market has been running for over a decade, with more than 50 local vendors selling produce, baked goods, crafts, and of course, food trucks. It's the kind of morning where you run into three neighbors before you've even finished your coffee.

Midday: Waugh Chapel Towne Centre
For shopping and a movie, Waugh Chapel Towne Centre is the hub everyone in Crofton drives to. Wegmans, Target, and Dick's Sporting Goods anchor the center, and Regal Cinemas Waugh Chapel 12 & IMAX means a full movie experience is minutes away, no trip to Annapolis or Baltimore required. Grab lunch at one of the restaurants in the center and make an afternoon of it.

Afternoon: Crofton Park and Bell Branch Park
Crofton has real green space too. Crofton Park offers walking trails, playgrounds, and open sports fields, and Bell Branch Park rounds it out with tennis courts and athletic fields for anyone who wants to get outside and move. It's the kind of afternoon that makes this town feel like a real community, not just a collection of neighborhoods.

Evening: Community Events
Crofton takes its community calendar seriously. The Crofton Civic Association's Summer Concert Series brings live music to the park through the warmer months, and seasonal events run all year, from spring arts festivals to fall community gatherings. Ask any longtime resident and they'll tell you: the calendar here stays full.

A New Chapter: Crofton High School
For decades, Crofton's high schoolers were bused to Arundel High in Gambrills. That changed with the opening of Crofton High School, now serving grades 9 through 12 right in the community. It's a genuine point of pride here. A new mascot, new colors, and a school the whole town finally gets to call its own.

Why It Works
A day in Crofton moves at a comfortable pace. Farmers market mornings, real shopping and entertainment at Waugh Chapel, parks in the afternoon, and a community calendar that never really slows down. Add a high school this community fought for and finally got, and it's easy to see why people don't leave once they've settled in.

If a day like this sounds like the life you want, that's a conversation worth having. I've spent 36 years helping people find their place in Crofton and throughout Anne Arundel County. Never looked back, and I'd love to help you find yours too.
